Archaeoentomological assessment of weevil (Coleoptera, Bruchidae) infestation level of pea (Pisum sativum) at the Late Bronze Age settlement Hissar

چکیده
A find of 2572 charred seeds pea (Pisum sativum L.) was detected at the Late Bronze Age tell settlement Hissar near Leskovac, in Serbia, belonging to Brnjica cultural group, 14-10 cent. BC. Two types were observed: apparently healthy and damaged by activity a weevil (Coleoptera, Bruchidae). At least two-fifths all finds have been infested most probably (Bruchus pisorum L.), one important pests worldwide, especially medium-moist dry climates, such as Southern Europe Australia. large amount indicates developed production on small plots, strongly indicating that cultivating this ancient pulse crop must well-rooted field conditions. Previous DNA analyses placed an intermediate position between extantly cultivated (P. L. subsp. var. sativum) wild, winter hardy, 'tall' elatius (Steven ex M. Bieb.) Asch. et Graebn.). Based assumption its late harvest time combined with life cycle stage seeds, it possible estimate season during which carbonized, namely, second half July or first days August latest. Older, final instars predominant before seed carbonization. The infestation rate is highest noted among pulses Old World peas, so far.

متن کاملRole of nitrogen content of pea (Pisum sativum L.) on pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum Harris) establishment
The leaf nitrogen content is generally accepted as an indicator of food quality and as a factor affecting host selection by phytophagous insects. The alate pea aphids (Acyrthosiphon pisum Harris, Aphididae) were given a choice among non-nodulated pea plants (Pisum sativum L.) supplied with one of four nitrate-N levels (0, 3, 15 and 30 mM). When whole plants were exposed to aphids for 7 days, th...
متن کاملPea, Pisum sativum, and Its Anticancer Activity
Pisum sativum (Family: Fabaceae), as known as green pea or garden pea, has long been important in diet due to its content of fiber, protein, starch, trace elements, and many phytochemical substances. It has been shown to possess antibacterial, antidiabetic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antihypercholesterolemia, and antioxidant activities and also shown anticancer property. Its nonnutritive bi...
متن کاملPolyadenylate-Binding Protein from Pea (Pisum sativum)'
A polyadenylate-binding protein (PABP) was purified from cellfree extracts prepared from pea seedlings (Pisum sativum) by ammonium sulfate precipitation and Affi-Gel Blue and polyadenylate-Sepharose 4B affinity chromatography. The final preparation from polyadenylate-Sepharose 4B columns contained a single 70-kilodalton polypeptide with high polyadenylate-binding activity. The purified protein ...
متن کاملPea (Pisum sativum L.) Growth Mutants
This review is devoted to the Pisum sativum L. growth mutants. These mutants are presented by several groups of plants. The first group is characterized by short internodes (dwarf mutants le, na, lk, la, lh, ls) or by elongated internodes (slender mutant sln). The stem growth of mutants of both types (dwarf and slender) is controlled by hormones (GA and IAA) in the stem or in seeds. Mutants cha...
